Frequently asked questions
A model portfolio shoot focuses on showcasing a model's versatility and marketability for agencies (clean, varied looks, natural makeup), while a creative shoot emphasizes artistic expression, unique concepts, experimental styles, and narrative, often pushing boundaries with elaborate styling, lighting, or themes for artistic portfolios or TFP (Time for Print) projects, though both can blend, a portfolio is for selling the model's core look, whereas a creative shoot is about art.
Goal: To create marketable images for casting directors, agencies, and brands.
Style: Versatile, showcasing range (commercial, editorial, fitness, etc.) with clean, clear shots.
Appearance: Minimal, natural makeup, simple/fitted clothing (leggings, T-shirts, swimwear) to highlight features, not hide them.
Lighting: Often clean, simple, and flattering, designed to make the model look like a blank canvas.
Focus: The model's features, ability to pose, connect with the camera, and embody different "types".
Goal: Artistic exploration, building a unique vision, networking, and creating unique images.
Style: Conceptual, artistic, experimental, narrative-driven, using unique props, locations, and editing.
Appearance: Can involve elaborate, avant-garde, or thematic hair, makeup, and costumes.
Lighting: Intentional use of dramatic, contrasting, or unconventional lighting effects (e.g., light trails, harsh shadows).
Focus: The overall artistic concept, storytelling, and unique visual aesthetic, often as a collaboration.

For a creative shoot, you can book an Advanced Portfolio shoot and we can work on a concept. See the modelling page for more details. I typically don't accept unsolicited TFP requests unless it is an outstanding concept or one that aligns very much with projects I have in my queue, and the model is experienced and serious about the industry.
I do shoot personal projects where I reach out to models to work with me on the specific look. These are typically TFP, and I cover overhead costs. A lot of time, money and effort goes into these shoots, so the search for the best model is very important. Occasionally I will post a model call for them. Here are some best practices for responding to the model call.
- Review the details and ensure it is a good fit for you. I typically post very specific requirements as I am looking for a very specific look.
- Respond quickly, and only once. Be concise and polite. Using language such as "I might be interested" is a red flag. I am looking for models who are enthusiastic about working with me. Not all projects are going to be for you.
- If emailing me, have a link to your portfolio attached. If responding on Instagram, be sure your page has either a link to your portfolio, or is your portfolio with credentials (ie. professional images). Please ensure your portfolio is publicly viewable. A private account is not professional.
